Day 1 - Munich-Garmisch-Schachenhaus-Munich
Early in the morning we will meet at Munich train station or at your hotel to take the local train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen - a scenic train ride passing typical Bavarian landscapes. Our hike will start at Garmisch train station. We wlk towards the Partnach gorge, a deep gorge of the Partnach river. We walk along the river on a trail passing bridges and tunnels. Leaving the gorge we will enter dense forest. A steep hike on the "Kälbersteig" called trail will take us from 2.690 feet / 820 meters to 5.600 feet / 1.700 meters. Leaving the forest we have a fantastic view onto the surrounding peeks. On a gravel road we walk towards Schachenhaus which is located on 5.900 feet / 1.800 meters. At Schachenhaus we can have lunch at the mountain lodge and visit the museum of Schachenhaus. The building was built in 1872 for the King Ludwig of Bavaria as a hunting lodge. Inside you find the Turkish room which is decorated in Oriental style.
From there a deep descent will take us back to the Partnach valley jsut behind Zugspitze mountain, the highest peak of Germany. We will walk back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. If there is still time left we can visit the mountain village of Garmisch-Partenkirchen before taking back the train to Munich.
